The Drake was the first mixed-use commercial/residential building in the Barkley District and set the tone for future residential projects. The client wanted to provide living opportunities for people who work in the neighborhood and create more density in the growing, urban area. The project includes three levels of one-bedroom and studio condominiums over two levels of commercial space and a parking garage. The design reinforces the pedestrian experience in the neighborhood and creates street presence for the commercial spaces. In keeping with the district’s design standards, a mix of masonry and concrete are the building’s primary materials while metal siding distinguishes it from other, surrounding structures.
