Joe Martin (1909-1981) was a Bellingham baseball legend: Whatcom High School star pitcher, semi-pro player and Bellingham Bells founder (1941), manager, groundskeeper and chief booster. He also ran a sporting goods store and briefly managed the Bellingham Mariners. In 1980, Joe learned that the city’s new baseball facility at Civic Field would be named after him. Thirty-five years later, RMC worked with DA Hogan & Associates to implement major upgrades at the facility that bears his name. We like to think Joe would be proud to see the new larger, more accessible dugouts that accommodate athletes of all abilities, and complement more than 120,000 square feet of new baseball infield, outfield & warning track. The new synthetic turf outfield is also available for soccer, lacrosse and other sports.
