RMC’s aim was to make this historic and beloved small-town department store a working part of the future. Now resurrected as the Waples Mercantile Building, 444 Front Street is reclaiming its anchor position in downtown Lynden — not as a classic department store, but as a thoroughly modern collection of five, complementary tenants designed to appeal to 21st century customers. Creaky plank floors, heavy timber columns and beams and weathered brick yield the texture of a storied past, while busy retailers speak to the building’s increasingly prosperous present.
